Twenty years ago, when the world of the written word was made new with the World-Wide Web, there were great expectations of new creativity because writers no longer needed approval of editors to get published. Now that the dust has settled I need editors more than ever to find my way in the vastly increased jungle of trash.
Yet I am grateful for the new freedom that helped me find Paul Graham, who wrote primarily on the Web and whose essays (he does not "blog"; he writes essays) I have enjoyed and to whose example I aspire.
